This exercise is designed to help the student practice the chromatic scale in a methodical fashion in order to maximize time, effort and results.

Practice very slowly at first (quarter note = 60) and increase the tempo only when you can perform the exercise with out mistakes and in time with the metronome.

*As there are two ways to play the pinky keys, practice both combinations. They should feel equally comfortable.

**Use the alternate fingerings where they are indicated.

Chromatic exercise #1 starts at the bottom of the clarinet’s range (E1) and works through the first octave (E2). Click here for Chromatic Scale Exercise for Clarinet #1
